The Jeseníky
Mountains along with their foothills
The Jeseníky Mountains and their foothills are a mountain
paradise with numerous historical and technological treasures.
One can choose a trail which will suit your physical condition
as well as your interests in each season of the year. Winter
sports fans may take their choice from the offerings of the
various winter resorts. There is a lot on offer. Advanced
skiers will be interested in the areas of Červenohorské sedlo,
Petříkov or Ramzova. Additionally, other ski areas, for example,
Staré Město, Branná, Lipová-lázně, Klepáčov, Malá Morávka
– Karlov and Praděd provide a lovely terrain, maintained downhill
ski runs, ski and snowboard rentals and equipment, evening
skiing, ski schools and at certain places even attractions
such as snowtubing. Dozens of cross-country trails beckon
in the magnificent countryside of the Jeseníky Mountains.
They lead across ridges and through picturesque valleys. A
number of them are regularly maintained by machine.
In the summer time the Jeseníky offer hundreds of well-marked
trails for both hiking as well as cycling. One can set off
to for example Rejvíz the largest peat bog in Moravia, to
Praděd the highest mountain in Moravia, to the nature reserve
Šerák – Keprník, the oldest in Moravia or to the Velká kotlina
nature reserve which is the most precious in the Jeseníky
in terms of natural treasures. There are also numerous nature
instructional trails in the area.
Those interested in getting to know something truly special
can visit the Jánský Vrch chateau in the foothills of the
Rychlebské hory Mountains, the northernmost part of the Jeseníky,
which houses the largest collection of smoking pipes and accessories
in the country. Not far from Praděd at a height of 1350 metres
above sea level one can visit Dlouhé Stráně the third largest
pumped storage plant in the world. A tour of the area is a
truly unique experience. Only a few kilometres further to
the south one may admire the production of handmade paper
in one of the oldest factories in Europe in the town of Velké
Losiny. Are you interested in additional experiences? Take
a trip to the town of Šumperk and experience the fairytale
tour of the of the town from the 13th to the 21st centuries
or the Acrobat Park in Štíty where one can ski jump into water
and where if you are lucky you might even meet Olympic champion
Aleš Valenta. And of course there are relaxation offerings
at a range of spas or the witch trials in Velké Losiny.
Underground treasures can be found in the oldest recorded
caves in Central Europe Na Špičáku caves which are even completely
handicapped accessible. Also of interest are the Na Pomezí
caves with one of the largest cave systems in the country
which came into being through dissolving marble.
