Cycling

Flat Haná is literally a paradise for cyclists. It is laced by a rich and well-marked network of cycling paths, which measure more than 1500 kilometres. The paths listed below are connected to hundreds of kilometres of local paths, which often go through the woods on asphalt paths so that the trip is not only easy, but in many cases you can experience the great quiet of nature. These are for example the paths In the Šternberk Area, Into Gorgeous Nature, or Into the Depths of Time. In the Uničov area the paths Holubice, or Sovinec. Paths in the Němčice area, around Lipník nad Bečvou, in the Hranice area or the Tovačov area. The network of cycling paths is so diverse that everyone can find a path most appropriate for themselves.

Cycling

You can gets tips in information centres in the area where you can choose and find detailed materials and maps.

Main Central Moravian Cycling Paths
The Amber Trail
The first of the two international paths which intersect with the Central Moravian regional network of paths for cyclists, connecting Vienna, Brno, Ostrava and Krakow. It passes through Central Moravia for 150 kilometres of its length, from Hustopeče nad Bečvou, through Teplice nad Bečvou, Přerov, Olomouc and Prostějov to Protivanov. Tackling the Central Moravian section of the Amber Trail is quite a pleasant excursion, during which you will see a good number of attractive places. In Hustopeče nad Bečvou you can soak up the power of relaxation in natural lakes, much sought-after watering holes, and in the nearby town of Skalička an old windmill awaits you. The famous spas in Teplice nad Bečvou are another possibility for a visit, the nearby Zbrašov Argonite Cave and the deep Hranice Chasm are worth a closer look. The path to Přerov runs by monumental Helfštýn Castle, which is worth a visit. In Lipník nad Bečvou you can go to the town centre, where you can feast your eyes on renaissance houses, the old town walls, and a number of other monuments. On the section between Lipník and Osek in the area of Jadran Lake, the cycle path is paradise for in-line skaters. In Přerov you should not miss the protected monument zone in the town centre. Olomouc and Prostějov with nearby Plumlov also offer countless monuments and attractions. In nearby Protivanov the Central Moravian part of the Amber Trail ends.

The Moravian Trail
The Moravian Trail runs from Jeseník to Southern Moravia. It runs through 82 kilometres of the Haná region, through Mohelnice, Litovel, Olomouc, Tovačov and Kroměříž and its essential part goes through the gorgeous natural scenery of the Litovel Morava Riverlands. In the first part of the path you will find a romantic landscape, formed by unspoiled forest meadows and you can stop off in several very interesting localities. In Moravičany a beautifully decorated church in the form of a cross is worth seeing, in nearby Nové Mlýny there is a unique hydroelectric power plant from the end of the 19th century, and in Nové Zámky you will find the Hunters’ Lodge of the Liechtensteins and the exceptional small stone buildings of the Liechtenstein manor. Litovel and Olomouc are opportunities for longer stays and in-depth tours. The path continues on to Tovačov, a town surrounded by fishponds where many rare birds nest, and its chateau is not to be missed. From there you travel through Chropyňe to Kroměříž, the sumptuous former residence of the Olomouc bishops and archbishops.

Moravian Gate Valley
Path:
Lipník nad Bečvou – Venedik – Jezernice – Milenov – Drahotuše – roundel – Rybáře lávka (Fisherman’s Bridge) – Gabrielka – Maleník – Hubert – forest edge above Záhoří – Lhota – Pavlovice – Sušice – Oldřichov – Jadran – Lipník nad Bečvou

Trail Characteristics:
This trail is not terribly difficult; it is suitable for families with children 8 and over. It takes you through the Moravian Gate valley, and partially above it.

Moravian Gate Valley

Path Description:
From Lipník nad Bečvou it is best to take Loučská Street, take a right just after the railroad overpass and follow the railway line along the field path called Venedik all the way to Jezernice. You can pause in the Obecní pub, although with respect to what lies before you, it would be best not to tarry there. From Jezernice to Milenov it also goes along a field path which is partly paved and here you can start to feast your eyes on both the Oder Hills, which jut above you on the left, and the Hostýn Peaks on the right. From Milenov it is just a stone’s throw away to Drahotuše. In this small town you can find a large assortment of refreshments on the main square (for example the Smokie restaurant which has a children’s corner in the courtyard). Here there is the most dangerous part of the way – crossing the I/47 motorway, to the roundel. From the roundel slightly from the hill you go to the Rybáře orchards and after the footbridge go to the other bank of the Bečva River.
With this you have negotiated the Moravian Gate at its narrowest point. After the footbridge, go to the left and rising in the woods you will arrive at the crossroads “Nad Rybáři” to Gabrielka. In the valley of the stream you can observe the natural weir constructions, which serve as instructional aids for the forestry school in Hranice.
From Gabrielka in the direction of Hranice there are several beautiful views of the valley. Along the stone wall the path takes a sharp turn to the right, you leave the blue hiking path and go uphill and after 1 km you will arrive at a crossroads. Here you take a right (following the red hiking trail). Around Maleník (rest place with a sign-in book) you go to the U Huberta hunting lodge, where you turn to the left toward the gate. After three hundred metres take the central path and for awhile you will have before you a view of Záhoří peak, and in good viewing conditions you can even see Hostýn Peak and Kelčský Javorník mountain (865 m) – the highest point in the Hostýn Peaks. Go through Lhota to Pavlovice, and then on to Sušice. This last part of the path goes along a class III road. With mountain bikes it is possible before going down to Pavlovice to turn right and go through the Kudlovský meadows (across the Šelamarathon path) downhill to Sušice and connect again with the Jantarová (Amber) Trail, which will take you through Oldřichov to Jadran Lake between Osek and Lipník.

Helfštýn Trail, or to Helfštýn from the Hill
Path:
Lipník nad Bečvou – Týn (Pod lípou) – Týn turnaround – Dříně – Rybáře (footbridge) – Hranice restaurant Na Střelnici – Hranice Sokolovna – Teplice nad Bečvou Spa – Zbrašov – U Antoníčka – Maleník – U Huberta – around Krásnice – Helfštýn – Týn – Lipník nad Bečvou

Trail Characteristics:
Easy trail, which will show you the most beautiful places on the Maleník hillside, suitable even for families with children. On its path are the greatest tourist attractions of the Moravian Gate – so this trail can be planned as a full day trip.

Helfštýn Trail, or to Helfštýn from the Hill

Path Description:

From Lipník go in the direction of Týn nad Bečvou and right after the bridge across the Bečva River follow the cycling path around the natural preserve Škrabalka, which has an instructional nature trail. In Týn, at the restaurant Pod lípou (garden, sandbox for kids, ice cream) turn left toward the Bečva River and take the footpath to the bus turnaround at the end of Týn – careful, the footpath after a bit leaves the river and goes slightly to the right. From the turnaround take the field “highway” to Dříně, a cottage settlement below the woods. Now keep to the river again, practically all the way to Hranice (the path comes to an end at the Rybáře footbridge).
At the gardening community in Hranice, take a right toward the restaurant Na Střelnici, a favourite target for day trippers and where you will certainly enjoy a rest. From there, along the road, you will arrive at the Hranice Sokolovna, where you will turn right, ending at the tennis courts on both sides and before you you will see a beautiful and long rise. Luckily, you don’t have to go up in one go.
Teplice nad Bečvou offers many attractions for stopping (spa, colonnade, sulphur springs, caves, refreshments, ice cream – and on the other side of the Bečva River is the deepest chasm in Central Europe). At the end of the Zbrašov Hill lies the village of Teplice nad Bečvou, but locals don’t call this area anything but Zbrašov. If the hill exhausts you, nice summer refreshments are available behind the fire station. Take a deep breath, this is not the end of the hills. At the U Antoníčka crossroads turn right away from the road and follow the red hiking trail around Maleník to the U Huberta hunting lodge.
Now follow the marked Jantarová (Amber) Trail, which will take you along the ridge around Krásnice peak, of which there are many local legends, and after a long gradual decline you will arrive at the parking lot for Helfštýn Castle (the castle is a must-see). From Helfštýn go along the road until you get to Týn, the restaurant Pod lípou and then along the already familiar cycling path around Škrabalka you will return to Lipník.

Southwest Cycling Circle
Path:
Nezamyslice – Tištín – Koválovice-Osíčany – Pačlavice – Lhota – Zdravá Voda – Švábenice – Ivanovice – Chvalkovice – Dřevnovice – Nezamyslice

Southwest Cycling Circle The Southwest cycling circle begins in Nezamyslice, where you can visit the Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas from the year 1701, and the three Baroque statues of saints there. Another stop on the trail is the village of Tištín. You will be attracted to its pearl of the Baroque from afar, the dominant feature in the skyline of the entire micro-district – the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. After touring the Baroque monument, you can take a nice break in the swimming area at the next stop, in Koválovice – Osíčany. After a proper rest, go through the villages of Pačlavice, Lhota, Zdravá Voda, Švábenice, Ivanovice, and Chvalkovice, which are not parts of the Němčice micro-district, and go on to Dřevnovice. Here there was a find proving Stone Age settlement – a large plough. The village grew gradually, and in the last century it had a distillery, sawmill, brickworks, savings bank, mill, oil plant and spa. Our tour ends back in Nezamyslice. This cycling path in the area of Nezamyslice – Tištín – Koválovice connects with the marked cycling trail no. 5084, which continues through Unčice, Pavlovice, Srbce, and Vrchoslavice to Měrovice.

Northwest Cycling Circle
Path:
Nezamyslice – Dřevnovice – Chvalkovice – Želeč – Brodek u Prostějova – Otaslavice – Dobrochov – Kobeřice – Hradčany – Dobromilice – Doloplazy – Víceměřice – Nezamyslice

Northwest Cycling CircleThe northwest cycling circle begins again in Nezamyslice with another significant monument, the original stronghold, renovated as a Baroque chateau and seat of the lords of Nezamyslice. The chateau is not open for tours, unfortunately, as it serves as a home for mentally retarded children. The next stop is the village of Dřevnovice, with nice views of the lords’ estates and gardens tapering off into the fields. The trail will take you again to the Němčice micro-district via the villages of Chvalkovice, Želeč, Brodek u Prostějova, Otaslavice, Dobrochov, Kobeřice, and Hradčany to Dobromilice. The Bukůwků family tomb and chapel here is not to be missed due to their interesting method of burial – the coffins lie on the floor and are preserved by a natural process – air. Now the trail will take you to Doloplazy. The Renaissance chateau here burned down in 1904 and was rebuilt in Historicist style as a residential villa. The chateau and its 2-hectare park is a protected national monument. Víceměřice is the next stop. This is a nice ride due to the improved road and planted trees. In the village there are protected cultural monuments – a Late Empire chateau used at present as a home for social care, from whose workshop you may purchase wicker products as a souvenir. Others protected monuments are the statue of St. John Nepomuk from the beginning of the 18th century, and the roadside chapel where109 plague victims were buried in 1829. The trail ends back in Nezamyslice.
The section Brodek u Přerova – Otaslavice - Dobromilice – Víceměřice connects with the marked cycling path no. 5040, which continues to Němčice, Kojetín, and Lobodice in the direction of Tovačov.

Gourmet Trail
Path:
Olomouc Řepčín – Horka nad Moravou – Litovelské Pomoraví – Lhota nad Moravou – Litovel – Nové Zámky – Nové Mlýny – Nový Dvůr – Červenka – Litovel – Lhota nad Moravou – Litovelské Pomoraví – Horka nad Moravou – Olomouc

Distance:
67.5 km
Gourmet Trail

Find Řepčín on the map. Here is where we will start. We’ll take the Moravian Trail (no. 51), which takes us through Horka nad Moravou to CHKO Litovelské Pomoraví – the Litovel Morava Riverlands Protected Nature Area. For the next few kilometres keep your eyes open, for there is so much to see! Naturally growing alluvial meadows, floodplain meadows, bogs, and valuable pools of water from the Morava River which create a unique biotope for plants and animals, especially birds. There is an instructional nature trail with 11 stations along the majority of the path.
Muscles working, body sweating, stomach starting to rumble. Let’s take a swim in the sand pit at Náklo and have a small snack at the Pod Lipou pub in Lhota nad Moravou.
Energy level back? Then let’s carry on. The town of Litovel awaits us. Six branches of the Morava River weave through the town, giving Litovel the nickname the “Venice of Haná”. First we’ll quench our thirst in its quite un-Venice-like brewery. You should certainly try the speciality beer “Pí-Pivo”. Lunch? From a choice of many pubs and restaurants you might try for example the restaurant U Starého mlýna.
About 3 km beyond Litovel the Moravian Trail goes on to Nové Zámky. In the neighbouring woods, try to find some of the stone edifices built by the Liechtensteins here: for example, the Temple of Friendship in Classical style, or the Obelisk.
For the next while we have the last section of the Moravian Trail before us. In Nové Mlýny we’ll coast along path no. 6051. But first we’ll visit the hydroelectric plant here, a technical monument from 1898. Or perhaps you would prefer to visit the fine Rybářská Bašta restaurant?
We’ll leave path no. 6051 and continue along path no. 6026 through Nový Dvůr and Litovel, where we’ll connect back to the Moravian Trail. This time we’ll go quickly through Lhota nad Moravou to Lovecká chata u Tří mostů – the Hunting Lodge at the Three Bridges.
We’ll have just a small meal, for night swimming is awaiting us at Poděbrady pond, the last stop on the Gourmet Trail.

Adrenalin Trail; or, Haná Has Hills
Path:
Olomouc – Bystrovany – Velká Bystřice – Hlubočky – Hrubá Voda – Jívová – Hraničné Petrovice – Těšíkovská kyselka – Bělkovice-Lašťany – Bohuňovice – Olomouc - Černovír – Olomouc

Distance: 63 km
Adrenalin Trail; or, Haná Has Hills

This physically challenging path begins with an easy start along the flatlands.
We’ll take the Jantarová (Amber) Trail, but only to Velká Bystřice. There we’ll turn off to Hlubočky, and Hrubá Voda. Finally the terrain begins to rise. The slight rise here allows us to observe the Bystřice Valley Natural Park on the left and the undisturbed natural scenery of the Libavá military zone on the right.
Did you enjoy it? Now shift gears and fasten your toe clips, for from Hrubá Voda to Jívová and Hraničné Petrovice we’re going to have to overcome some steep rises. Whoa! It’s behind us now. As a reward we will coast down from Hraničné Petrovice all the way to Těšíkovská kyselka. Dismount, take some deep breaths, relax, have a look at the Těšíkov mill. The journey to Bělkovice-Lašťany will be a piece of cake. Enjoy it. Go along the Trusovický stream, slightly downhill. After Bohuňovice, we’ll turn off toward the Černovír woods, where there is a steam waterworks. From there through Chválkovice or Černovír we can return to Olomouc.
