The tourism area of the Jeseníky is made up of the mountain range of the Hrubý Jeseník along with its foothills, the Rychlebské hory, Králický Sněžník and the Nízký Jeseník Mountains. The attractive mountainous terrain is primarily appreciated by enthusiastic hikers and cyclists in the summer season. It is also, however, an ideal locale for fans of adrenalin sports where steep cliff walls or parachute jumping will bring one unique and unforgettable experiences. Whichever locale you eventually choose, everywhere will present you with an experience in untouched virgin nature, crystal clear streams and clean air.

1. The Area of Králický Sněžník and the Staré Město micro-region | top |

The Area of Králický Sněžník and the Staré Město micro-regionThe town of Staré Město pod Sněžníkem is surrounded by mountains. It lies on the boundary of the enormous massif of Králický Sněžník (1,424 m altitude) and Hrubý Jeseník (1,492 m altitude). The local mountain landscape is an ideal place for hiking trips through nature as well as demanding ascents. You will discover here a range of well-marked hiking trails from which a number involve significant altitude climbs.

The peak of Králický Sněžník towers over the Staré město micro-region. The Morava River has its source from this peak which offers up lovely views of the ranges of the Hrubý Jeseník, Orlické hory, Krkonoše as well as of the spread out flatlands of the Klodsko region and Silesia. On clear days once can even catch a glimpse of the city of Olomouc. On the top is situated an interesting statue of a female elephant. Also definitely worth seeing are the waterfalls and rapids of the Prudký (Rapid) Stream not far from Vysoké Žibřidovice.

The Area of Králický Sněžník and the Staré Město micro-region Tourists can also visit the border areas of Poland as Králický Sněžník, Kladská brána and other locales have border crossings on the hiking trails. The beautiful nature and clean air create ideal conditions for curative stays as well. Approximately thirty recreational facilities and cottages provide accommodation and dining in the area.

2. Rychlebské hory | top |

Rychlebské hory Rychlebské hory, the seventh highest mountain range in the Czech Republic, are located west of the town of Jeseník. Its main ridge lies on the Czech-Polish border, where the mountains range into Poland. Its highest peak is Smrk (1,125 metres) which is a crossing point of hiking trails. Rychlebské hory has a wide spectrum of interesting trails, for either short excursions, one-day tours or even several day trips across an entire mountain range. On your way, you will go through both small towns in the foothills as well as in the mountains themselves, amongst others, Bílá Voda, which is situated directly on the national border, Travná with its curative radioactive spring or Žulová with several large quarries for granite in the nearby vicinity.
Other locales in the mountains are also of great interest. One can reach the magnificent ruins of the Gothic castle. Rychleby which long ago guarded a merchant route from the Polish region of Klodsko into the Czech Lands, from the town of Javorník along the marked red hiking trail. Along the way one passes through the romantic Račí (Crayfish) valley, where one can glimpse the highest situated spring in the area, Anthony’s Spring and a lovely viewpoint Čertova kazatelna (the Devil’s Pulpit) with an unforgettable view of the valley as well as the castle ruins.
Accommodation for tourists to the Rychlebské hory area is available not only in mountain chalets and pensions, but also in private homes.

3. Bělá pod Pradědem, Jeseník, Rejvíz, Zlaté Hory | top |

Zlatý Chlum The northern part of the Hrubý Jeseník can boast of exceptionally preserved nature full of unique features as well as fascinating mountain towns and villages. The area is crisscrossed by a dense network of hiking trails, amongst which everyone can find something suitable. The local forests are full of surprises.

From the town of Jeseník one can set off on an all day trip or a short walk. The town lies at the confluence of two mountain streams surrounded by lovely forested hills. It only takes a few steps and all of a sudden, one finds oneself in the middle of virgin nature. One can also pay a visit to the Priessnitz Spa all the way up to the high altitude curative springs. Not far from this is a viewpoint on Medvědí kámen (Bear Rock) cliff which thanks to its location on the boundary between the Rychlebské hory and Hrubý Jeseník provides one of the most beautiful views in the area, as well as two cave complexes – Na Pomezí and Na Špičáku.

RejvízRejvíz is the largest Moravian peat bog. A nature trail leads through it, taking the tourist all the way to the large moss lake. The trail begins at the Rejviz Pension which is known for its carved wood chairs with caricatures of Rejvíz residents. When wandering through the locale of Bělá pod Pradědem one comes across the cemetery of Soviet prisoners of war in the valley of the Bystrý and Zaječí streams which is recalled by former prisoner of war camps. The nearby rock formation Kazatelna (Pulpit) was apparently made use of by the Hussites. Near the Opavská cottage can be seen the remains of glass making activities. The romantic remains of Adelsburg Castle can be seen near the village of Adolfovice. The panning of gold in the Zlaté Hory micro-region is recalled by the Mining nature trail which leads to mysterious mining shafts and galleries. Also of interest are the viewing tower of Biskupská kupa (Bishop’s Stack) whose summit is almost 900 metres high, the ruins of the castles Edelštejn and Kobrštejn, the former guards of the gold mines, and the viewing point Výrův kámen (Owl Rock) from which the town of Zlaté Hory will lie at your feet.

4. Lipová-lázně, Ramzová, Ostružná, Branná, Šerák | top |

Lipová–lázněThe spa and recreational area of Lipová–lázně lies in the valley of the Staříč River with its surroundings providing numerous hiking opportunities. From the nearby viewing point Bobrovník one can see the towns of Jeseník and Lipova-lázně from a bird’s perspective. Also of interest are the lovely Obří skály (Giant Rocks) with unique views of the surrounding countryside. One can also climb Kopřivný Hill, from where one can see the railway line, Ramzovské sedlo, and the romantic Ztracené údolí (Lost Valley) where a former wagonner trail winds.

RamzováRamzovské sedlo is a main European watershed point and has the highest situated municipality in the Jeseník micro-region, Ramzová, which is also the station for a chair lift and renowned ski area. Within its valley is the romantic spring Dobrá Voda (Good Water), Koňská (Horse) vantage point with a lovely view of the Branná River valley and of the ravine on the slopes of Keprník as well as the hunting lodge Císařská bouda (Emperor’s Lodge). A nature trail leads here across Šerák Mountain from Červenohorské sedlo which provides information as to the mystery of the local fauna and history of the particular natural phenomena.

In the municipality of Ostružná tourists can see a wind power station and numerous hiking trails which will take you to the most interesting points in the vicinity as well as to more distant surroundings. Over the municipality towers the viewing point Ostružník. One can also walk through the lovely Adamovské Valley, visit the community of Malé Vrbno where graphite has been mined and processed for over one hundred years, or the small town of Branná with its lovely surroundings. From Branná the Pasák (Herdsman) nature trail begins which will introduce unique rock formations which came into being through erosion.

ŠerákThe most famous of these is the isolated Pasák recalling a human figure. From the top of Šerák Mountain (1,351 metres) you can see all of the Staré Město micro-region, Králický Sněžník, the Jesenik micro-region and Rychlebské hory. Many hiking trails lead out from the hill. Also located here is the upper station of the chair lift. The ride by chair lift from Ramzovské sedlo up to Šerák is an unforgettable experience for lovers of panoramic scenery. Also from here one can take the nature trail Červenohorské sedlo – Šerák – Keprník, which will acquaint you with the local natural, as well as other, wonders. On the top of Šerák one finds growths of mountain pines while a stone sea is spread out beneath Šerák.

5. Červenohorské sedlo, Kouty nad Desnou, Loučná nad Desnou, Praděd | top |

Červenohorské sedloThe most important transition point across the Jeseníky, Červenohorské sedlo, divides the Hrubý Jeseník into the mountain massif Keprník and the massif Praděd. It is an important crossroads of hiking trails from which one can reach various interesting points as well as a starting point for mountain ridge hikes. From the summit not far from Červená hora (Red Hill) a view opens up of the ridges of the Jeseníky. Under the mountain is located the isolated rock Kamenné okno (Stone Window) with an artificial rock gate. From the cliff Točník one can see the Jeseník panorama with the border Keprník and part of the Rychlebské hory. Of interest is the viewing cliff Jeřáb (Crane).

From the municipality of Kouty nad Desnou an attractive trail leads through the valley of the Hučivá Desná stream to the Vřesová studánka (Heath Spring). Opposite the spring under Spálená hora a remarkable stone sea is spread out, which came into existence through fluctuations in temperatures and the collapse of the rock. Also of interest is Hučivá Desná, a lively mountain stream with numerous rapids as well as the nearby waterfalls in Medvědí hory (Bear Mountains). Loučná nad Desnou, a municipality in the Desná valley at the foot of Mravenečník (Anteater) Mountain is a renowned recreational centre with a number of accommodation facilities, serving Červenohorské sedlo as well as a starting point for a number of hiking trails. Here one will find a lovely chateau park, a perfect place for setting off for, for example, Praděd Mountain.

The largest mountain in the Jeseníky and all of Moravia, Praděd (1,492 metres) is definitely worth a visit. Right next to it are located a whole range of mountain chalets as well as singular points of interest. Here you will find the chalets Švýcárna, Barborka and Ovčárna. From the top of Praděd, with a telecommunications tower with a restaurant, one can set off on the moderate trail from Ovčárna culminating with the ascent to the anticipated view of the wide surroundings.
You will get a glimpse of the legendary Petrovy kameny (Peter’s Stones) with boulders on the top. You can also set off to Tabulová skalá (Table Rock) with its rare species of plants. On the way you will pass a border rock from the 18th century with the coat of arms of the Wroclav bishop, the Order of Teutonic Knights and the Žerotín family. From Švýcárna chalet a trail leads to the 45 metre high Vysoký vodopád (High Waterfall), covered with mosses and ferns.

6. Vrbno pod Pradědem, Karlova Studánka, Malá Morávka – Karlov | top |

Bílá Opava River In the vicinity of the town of Vrbno pod Pradědem one finds the remains of medieval panning for gold. Hiking trips will bring you to, for example, the mysterious relics of tunnels which among other things are hidden at the top of Vysoká hora (High Mountain). One can also walk along two willow loops where one passes a number of wooden cottages, can refresh oneself at forest springs, enjoy the numerous lovely views of the surrounding countryside, or climb up to the summit of Zámecká Mountain where the remains of the Přemyslid castle of Fürstenwald are located. Also of interest is a walking trip to the municipality of Karlovice with its collection of folk architecture and a mill with several floors from the year 1600.

The climate spa town of Karlova Studánka is the highest municipality in the Bruntál micro-region and also the opening gate to Praděd Mountain. Tourists mainly come here to see the waterfalls of the Bílá Opava River which are located not far from the municipality. The deeply carved valley of the river creates a number of waterfalls with the surrounding slopes disappearing into dizzying heights. An instructional trail leads through a canyon relating everything there is to know about the local items of interest. Additional hiking trails lead through the lovely landscape with rare kinds of fauna and flora. An interesting excursion destination is to Anenský vrch (Anne Hill) where one discovers a small church and can enjoy a lovely view of all of the Bruntál micro-region. The largest ski areas in the Jeseníky, Karlov and Malá Morávka, also have something to offer in the summer. In the surroundings, as with all of the Jeseníky area, one finds great numbers of wild mushrooms, strawberries and raspberries along the trails to attractive tourism destinations. From the nearby summits, one gets views of the picturesque valley in which the recreational centres lie. An attractive chapel stands on the promontory of Kapličkový vrch (Chapel Hill) housing a museum, while the romantic rocks on Kopřivná present a lovely view of Karlova Studánka and the Vrbno pod Pradědem micro-region. Particularly interesting is a trip against the current of the Moravice River toward its sources and the most precious of the Jeseníky national parks Velká kotlina (Large Hollow) which is the richest botanical locality in the Czech Republic. All of this is supplemented by wide offerings of accommodation at both recreational centres.

7. Skřítek, Klepáčov, Velké Losiny | top |

Skřítek The mountain saddle of Skřítek divides the lowest part a of the Hrubý Jeseník from the Hraběšická hornatina (Earl Hilly Region). The saddle is an approximately 2.5 km long and several dozen meters wide plateau serving as a starting point for various ridge hikes. Starting here, for example, is a trail across the main ridge of the Hrubý Jeseník with several very impressive viewing points. Part of the saddle is the peat bog which has been declared a national park, although it is not open to the public. Nearby attractive localities include Ztracené kameny (Lost Rocks), from where a breathtaking view is presented to the visitor, the ruins of Rabštejn Castle, nearby to which are climbing rocks, nearby Mravenčí cesta (Ant Path) full of huge anthills or the rock formation Čertova stěna (Devil Wall). The saddle is also known for the rock sculpture of Skřítek (Elf) the good spirit of the Jeseníky Mountains.

Under the saddle of Skřítek lies the community of Klepáčov where one can find comfortable accommodation. This mountain hamlet in the lovely valley of the Klepáčov stream is proud of its wooden timber church.

It is also a recreational centre with numerous opportunities. The environs of the town of Velké Losiny are extremely interesting for tourists. Here are located a whole range of monuments which can be reached along well-marked trails. Of particular interest are the unique wooden churches in Maršíkov and Žárová. The noteworthy mineralogical nature trail Sobotín-Maršíkov, the first of its kind in the country, also leads through an area which will take you to the most significant mineralogical localities and perhaps even lead to the discovery of some minerals on your own with a little luck. Also attractive is the forest eco-path Švagrov leading around Vernířovice where one can make acquaintance with the local nature.

8. Slezská Harta, Sovinec micro-region | top |

Slezká Harta Slezská Harta
This monumental waterworks on the Moravice River is surrounded by lovely nature and is exceptionally attractive. The dense network of forest paths are an ideal opportunity for quiet walks or long hikes, with perfect conditions for gathering mushrooms as well. Also of interest are walks along the waterline with lovely views of the water surface as well as the surrounding nature. The local municipalities offer cultural monuments for viewing. Information tables situated on the embankment of the dam relate the history of the waterworks structure and its technical parameters. Tourists of a hardy nature can hike up the surrounding peaks of the Nizký Jeseník. The dam is also suitable for water sports. Six locales of the water reservoir, set aside for bathing, are regularly controlled for hygiene conditions. This endless water surface is a genuine paradise for fishermen, windsurfers, and those who enjoy boating. Tennis courts and horseback riding are available in close vicinity to the reservoir, as well as comfortable as well as less luxurious accommodation possibilities.

Sovinec micro-region
Sovinec The national park of the Sovinec micro-region on the western edge of the Nízký Jeseník is particularly valuable territory in terms of landscape. The gentle hilly landscape is made up of deep forests, extensive pastureland, fields and lovely valleys. The entire region is scattered with picturesque villages. Monumental Sovinec Castle, dating back to Medieval times, towers over the area. Around 10 kilometres distance are the Rešov waterfalls, the highest in the Nízký Jeseník. These are rapids on the Huntava stream, whose highest level is 10 metres high. Also nearby are the romantic remains of castles in Rešov and Huzová. The nearby municipality of Řídeč contains the preserved original look of a village with the remarkable Altar Stone in the adjoining forest. The area is crisscrossed by dozens of hiking trails. The Rešov waterfalls are reached along wooden stairs and footbridges. A whole range of chalets, cottages, pensions and hotels, all happy to welcome visitors exist throughout the entire area.

9. Šumperk micro-region, Zábřeh micro-region | top |

ŠumperkThe town of Šumperk has a number of names. Due to the showpiece buildings in the historical centre people have given it the nickname “Little Vienna” and due to its location on the edge of the Hrubý Jeseník it is known as the “Gate to the Jeseníky”. It lies in the lovely valley of the Desná River, directly below the mountain massif. In both close and more distant proximity to the town one finds numerous attractive and picturesque locales which can be reached by both demanding and easy hiking trails. A suitable opportunity for an excursion is presented by for example the Městské skály (Town Rocks) on whose summit one discovers an attractive alcove with a magical view opening up in front of the onlooker. An even greater view of the region is made possible by the viewing point on the top of the hill Háj (Grove) which can be reached after a demanding climb. Nearby Bludov contains lumber buildings, samples of folk architecture. One can see the main range of the Hrubý Jeseník from the bizarre boulder ‘Kokeš’. Also of interest is the Malínská rokle (gorge), the view from Kamenný vrch (Stone Hill) or the dam on the Hraběšice stream.

Svébohov Hiking trails in the vicinity of the town of Zábřeh head out to neighbouring ancient villages as well as to interesting natural locales. Amongst the most frequently visited places in the Zábřeh micro-region are the recreational community of Dolní Bušínov with its water reservoir suitable for bathing and the villages of Pivonín, Svébohov and Jedlí which contain original folk architecture buildings. Those who enjoy excursions to attractive natural settings will appreciate a trip to the ruins of Brníčko Castle spread out on an isolated hill approximately 9 kilometres from Zábřeh. Also of interest is the viewing point Na Skaličce where you can see Zábřeh from a bird’s perspective.
