The Czech Republic is a land-locked country situated in
Central Europe. It borders on Poland, Germany, Austria and
Slovakia. It has been a member state of the European Union
since 1994.
For centuries it has been a crossroads of European culture.
Its rich history has left hundreds of unique monuments,
customs and also dozens of famous spa towns.
Everyone can find a place in the Czech Republic to spend
their holiday, whether it be for reasons of sightseeing,
relaxation, the refreshing calm of mountain landscapes,
or the excitement of entertainment and sports centres.
Geographically, the Czech Republic (comprising the historic
lands of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia) is divided into
fourteen regional districts managed by regional governments.
One of these is the Olomouc Region, situated in the central
and northern parts of Moravia, given its name by the Morava
River, which flows through it. The region is made up of
five districts: Olomouc, Prostějov, Přerov, Šumperk and
Jeseník. The seat of the Olomouc Region is the city of Olomouc,
with one hundred thousand inhabitants.
The Olomouc Region can be divided into two large tourist
regions
Central Moravia – Haná and the Jeseníky Mountains.
